Events
Our events are designed to foster community engagement and support for individuals with developmental disabilities, promoting inclusivity and enriching their quality of life.
We live our mission by creating meaningful opportunities, providing resources, and promoting community inclusion to enrich the lives of those we serve. In the last 4 years we have provided low-cost community experiences to over 17,000 thousand individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in the Mahoning Valley. Our community experiences help to address social isolation by creating welcoming and accessible environments for individuals and families to meet new friends and enjoy fun activities.
Our community events also have a lasting impact. We carefully consider accessibility and work with each venue team to achieve an experience that can be enjoyed by all. Through this outreach, we are making spaces in the Mahoning Valley accessible for everyone. We successfully achieved this at Eastwood Field in building Scrappy’s Safe Haven and installing a universal changing table with a Hoyer lift. This was groundbreaking for the minor league baseball industry, serving as the model for nationwide implementation.
In addition to our community events, we provide art enrichment classes to individuals through a partnership with the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown. The classes offer a small group experience to explore creativity, uncover talents, and increase socialization. We also partner with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to give everyone opportunities to engage with the community during concerts and special holiday celebrations. The list of inclusive community opportunities continues to grow each year.
Each experience is a testament to the importance and desire of communities coming together for a unified mission of celebrating abilities, supporting inclusion, and promoting respect for people with developmental disabilities.
